Built at Arsenal de Brest and laid down on the 22nd of October 1935 it was launched on the 17th January 1939 and was quickly commissioned into service due to the evacuation of Dakar on the 18th June 1940. The Reichlieu remained at Dakar following the royal navy attacks of July and September 1940. She sailed to the Us fro repairs and a full refit in January 1943. ut was hear she had radar and AA armament upgraded. she has the in effective French 37mm AA armament removed and replaced with Fifty seven 40mm Bofors. and Fifty 20mm Oerlikons from US stocks. She operated for six months in South East Asia returning to Toulon on 1st october 1945. She was then re deployed with the British East Indies Fleet returning again to Europe in the spring of 1946. and while she was there was placed in reserve until 1956. she was eventually scrapped in Italy in 1968.

Displacement: 40,900 tons to 46,000 tons.  Speed: 30 knots, Range: 8,500 nautical miles at 14 Knots.     Compliment: 1670  Armament: Eight 380mm Guns, Fifteen 152 mm 55 cal. (this was the design but actually at time of completion this had been reduced to Nine) AA Guns Twelve 100mm 45 cal. Eight 37mm 50 cal.  Thirty Six 13mm MC.  replaced and re armed as stated above .
