Claire Eva Burtons new limited edition print, The 1997 Hennessy Cognat. Gold Cup (Sir Peter OSullivens Last Race) was painted to commemorate the retirement of the nations Voice ol Broadcasting, the great Sir Peter OSullevan. The painting portrays the victory of Suny Bay at the Hennessy Cognac Gold Cup Handicap Chase, which was run at Newbury on November 29th 1997 and which was the last race on which Sir Peter commentated for the BBC. Claire Eva Burtons powerful image depicts an exciting moment one mile from home, at the fourteenth fence, on the second circuit of this major race, The grey, Suny Bay, flanked on the near side by, Barton Bank and on the far side by Belmont Boy, was, eventually ridden to victory in front of a crowd of 17.000 by Graham Bradley, the veteran jockey, who had last ridden a winner in this race fifteen years before. Despite a bad error at the fourth fence, Suny Bay stayed on strongly to run another great horse, Barton Bank, into second place. For Sir Peter OSullevan, the afternoon was an emotional one, capped when his own colours were carried to victory by Sounds Fyne in a later race. Sir Peters horse came in at the genorous, odds of 12-1 but, unfortunately I didnt have a shilling onit he said later. Graham Isoms latest limited edition print, Cool Dawn, is characteristic of the artists genius in rendering the sense of horses in motion. The image depicts the fairy-tale victory of Cool Dawn in the 1998 Cheltenham Gold Cup, which was run on Thursday March 20th 1998. In the race, the unfancied outsider beat Strong Promise well into second place and the favourite. Dorans Pride, into third. Trained in Dorset by Robert Alner and carrying the colours of owner, Dido Harding, Cool Dawns romantic story stunned the world of racing. Bought cheaply as a nice safe ladys ride - to be ridden by the owner in point-to-points, Cool Dawns victory in the Cheltenham Gold Cup brought him the most prized trophy from the major meeting in National Hunt racing. In training, Cool Dawn had shown early promise and eventually ran third in the Irish National. However, the ten year old was so little fancied for the Gold Cup that lie set off at odds of 25-1. His jockey. Andrew Thormon, made all the running throughout the race and Cool Dawns terrific staying power kept him ahead of the pack, and thus out of trouble, until challenged only after the last fence by Strong Promise. In an epic battle up the hill to the finishing fine, Cool Dawn gradually inched ahead to complete a fairy-tale three-day racing festival at Cheltenham in which equally romantic victories had been won by the popular grey. One Man, and by the Irish favourite, Istabraq. Cool Dawn by Graham Isom.Click For DetailsLIM0457
Graham Isoms beautiful limited edition features Istabraq, one of the greatest horses of the century, on the way to winning the 1999 Smurfit Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham for the second year in succession. As in 1998, Istabraq was ridden by Charlie Swan and was eventually victorious in the biggest race in the National Hunt calendar by just over 3 lengths from a field of fourteen horses which included some of the most formidable names of the 1990s. From left to right, the horses prominently featured are: City Hall, ridden by Robert Thormon; Tiutchev, ridden by Mick Fitzgerald; Mister Morose, ridden by Carl Llewellyn; Bellator, ridden by Norman Williamson; Istabraq, ridden by Charlie Swan and French Holly, ridden by Andrew Thornton. Trained by Aidan OBrien and owned by the great Irish gambler JP McManus, Istabraq revelled in the bright and sunny conditions and on the good to soft ground. His success is a tribute to the work of the young colleague of JP McManus. John Durkan. who selected the horse on the grounds of his great promise but who died tragically frorn leukaemia before Istabraqs greatest triumphs. In his memory, the John Durkan Memorial Fund was founded by a number of his friends in the racing world to raise money to establish a leukaemia research body in Dublin called The Institute of Molecular Medicine. Istabraq, in Arabic, means to run like lightning. Istabraq by Graham Isom.Click For DetailsLIM0472
Graham Isom has chosen to portray perhaps the greatest National Hunt course in the world in this, his latest limited edition. The magnificent Cheltenham Racecourse, known across the world as the home of National Hunt racing, offers 16 race meetings in a season lasting from October to April. Highlight of the racing calendar is the National Hunt Festival in March, which features the famous Cheltenham Gold Cup and Champion Hurdle. The racecourse itself is set in a natural bowl, to which the Cotswolds provide a spectacular backdrop. The brown and purple hills which stand in and around the course are justly famous and, whether in low mist or in the beautiful spring sunshine, the weather and landscape can combine to produce the most remarkable effects of light and colour on race-days. Always driven by his love of horses, Graham Isoms painting of Cheltenham specifically depicts two of the great horses in the 2000 Gold Cup: Florida Pearl, ridden by Paul Carberry, and the eventual victor, Looks Like Trouble, ridden by Richard Johnson and wearing number 7. Peter Curlings latest superb limited edition tells the story, of one of the most moving and memorable days in racing history - the heroic victory of Aldaniti and Bob Champion in the Grand National on April 4th 1981. Bob Champion was one of the top five jump jockeys in Britain when. in July 1979, lie discovered that he had cancer in two parts of his body and was forced to undergo a painful, but successful course of chemotherapy at The Royal Marsden Hospital in Surrey. Whilst Bob Champion was struggling with his chemotherapy. the horse which he was hoping to ride in the 1981 Grand National- Aldaniti, who had already missed two full seasons with tendon trouble, strained his tendon for the third time. The injury was so severe that his trainer, Josh Gifford, suggested to the horses owners, Valda and Nick Embiricos, that he might never race again. Thus, the fairy story was born. Even to get under starters orders was achievement enough but for Bob Champion and Aldiniti to race home ahead of the favourite Spartan Missile and at it odds of 10- 1, was enough to make horse and jockey perhaps the best known in the history of the most famous race in the worId. Peter Curling has chosen to portray the emotional moment when Aldiniti, in the lead, took the final fence at Aintree just seconds before winning the once. The painting has been published as a limited edition print to raise funds for The Bob Champion Cancer Trust, which will benefit from the proceeds of every print sold. The Bob Champion Cancer Research Unit was opened at The Royal Marsden Hospital in 1986. Signed by Bob Champion himsell and by Josh Sifford, the trainer. and Nick Embiricos, the owner, Peter Curlings latest beautiful limited edition print is also a tribute to Aldaniti, who died it the grand old age 27 in 1997. Susan Crawfords latest limited edition depicts the famous race that never was between two of the greatest flat horses of our time. In August 2000, Sheikh Mohammed, the owner of Dubai Millennium, challenged Michael Tabor, the owner of Montjeu. to an old-fashioned head-to-head match over ten furlongs between the two superstar colts, with a purse of $6 million to the winner. However, just twenty-four hours later, Dubai Millennium broke his right hind leg in training at Newmarket and effectively ended his career. The eagerly anticipated match had to be abandoned. Owned and bred by Sheikh Mohammeds Godolphin Racing, Dubai Millennium won nine out of ten career starts, including triumphant victories in the Prince of Waless Stakes at Ascot in June 2000 and the $6 million Dubai World Cup in March 2000, failing to win only the Epsom Derby. Montjeu, bred by Sir James Goldsmith and trained by John Hanmond, has already been victrious in a number of big races, including the Prix de lArc de Triomphe at Longchamps in October 1999 and the King,George VI & Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes at Ascot in July 2000. In her depiction of the Race That Never Was. Susan Crawford has painted Dubai Millennium, ridden by Frankie Dettori, and Montjeu, ridden by Mick Kinane, neck and neck a furlong from home. Who won? We will never know. The Race That Never Was by Susan Crawford.Click For DetailsLIM0497

Graham Isoms latest limited edition in his Racecourses ofthe United Kingdom series features one of the greatest of all courses, Ascot. Ascot was founded in 1711 by Queen Anne, who noticed a natural clearing near to the village of East Cote, now called Ascot, whilst out riding on the edge of Windsor Great Park. An enthusiastic patron of the relatively new sport, the Queen ordered a course to be laid out for horses to gallop at full stretch and thus the Royal Racecourse was born. The first four-day Royal Meeting was held in June 1768 and the meeting has continued to the present day. Today Ascot stages 25 days of the highest quality flat and National Hunt racing each year, including the world-famous Royal Meeting each June. An atmospheric blend of top class thoroughbreds and high fashion, the Royal Meeting offers over £2.5 million in prize money and no fewer than 15 Group races, including a Group One on each of the four days. This painting depicts The King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes at Ascot in July 1999, in which the grey, Daylami, ridden by Frankie Dettori, Nedawi, ridden by Gary Stevens, and Fruits of Love, ridden by Olivier Peslier, battle for supremacy in a race eventually won by Daylami. Susan Crawfords latest limited edition depicts legendary jockey Lester Piggott in the colours of the late Lord Howard de Walden, for whom he rode 39 winners. Lord Howard de Walden was a good friend and patron and this subject was painted by the artist in his memory. The original painting was auctioned in November 2000 to raise money for The Sir Peter OSullevan Charitable Trust. The Trust benefits six animal welfare charities around the world: The Blue Cross, the Brooke Hospital for Animals in Cairo, Compassion in World Farming, the International League for the Protection of Horses, the Thoroughbred Rehabilitation Centre and Racing Welfare Charities. Whilst flat-racing enthusiasts may argue which horse was the best Derby Winner, artist Peter Deighan was deciding for himself, he made a short list of six. His canvas entitled Derby Winners depicts these six. They include the great Shergar, who ran the fastest Derby in history and won by a record ten lengths. Also included are Golden Fleece, Reference Point, Teenoso, The Minstrel and the fantastic Nashwan. Any of these could be classified as the greatest. Kentucky - born Steve Cauthen was just 12 years old when his father Tex finally agreed to help the single-minded young man realise a burning ambition to become a jockey provided he didnt let success make him big-headed. No parental proviso was ever more faithfully fulfilled.
In the year of his seventeenth birthday the kid rode 487 winners of 6 million dollars, including the U.S. Triple Crown on Affirmed. He went on to captivate British hearts two years later. By 1984 he was champion. But better was to come. No wonder the fairytale ingredients of 1985 have fired the imagination and talent of Peter Deighan to such compelling effect. Lester and Rodrigo de Triano. Lester Piggotts riding is legendary but, in 1992 he re-wrote the record books when riding his thirtieth and final Classic winner at the age of 57 aboard Peter Chapple-Hyams brilliant 3yo Rodrigo de Triano. Rodrigo had already stamped himself as a 2yo of the highest calibre but, had been beaten first time out as a 3yo in the Greenham trial at Newbury...and then Lester took over! Riding the son of El Gran Senor for the first time in public in the Two Thousand Guineas, Lester immediately struck up a formidable relationship with this super tough individual. Settled out the back by Lester, Rodrigo cruised up to the leaders with just over a furlong to run and, when asked to quicken by the Maestro, he surged clear for a most emphatic victory, making history in the process. Subsequently successful in three more Group One events, The Irish Two Thousand Guineas, The Juddmonte International and the Dubai Champion Stakes, all under the Maestro, Rodrigo was retired to stud a champion.
