The Routing of Rommel
The Campaign: North Africa became the focus of attention. Once
Allied troops were safely ashore, the commanders wanted to move out to
meet the Nazis with all possible speed, before they could bring
reinforcements across the Mediterranean. The problem was not a simple
military one. Complicating the movements of our troops was the French
political situation. In an attempt to reach Tunis before the Nazis could
reinforce their position there, the British first army continued their
punishing drive without letup. The remainder of the month of January and
early February were employed in getting the battle lines properly
organised, improving airfields and bringing up reinforcements.
Rommel Routed: The North African campaign entered its final
phase. For six weeks the Allied advance had been stalled in heavy mud.
Reinforcements had been brought up, and battle lines organised in
preparation for the assault which was to bottle the Nazi's up in Tunis.
The enemy too was preparing for the showdown battle. Some of the forces
under the command of Field Marshal Erwin Rommel, the Desert Fox, were
reassigned to the North. The last frantic German drive to keep North
Africa from falling into Allied hands was on.

The African Offensive
Platform for Invasion: In preparation for the African Campaign,
on the streets of English cities, American troops became a familiar sight.
The major problem would be accommodating the two million Americans that
arrived in Britain. That would be the immediate task. This friendly
invasion vastly increased the strain on the population. The scarcity of
supplies that had become so commonplace for every Briton, did not exist
for the G.I. It seemed that the arrival of every American soldier made
normal living conditions that much worse. In a short while, the United
Kingdom became one gigantic airbase, workshop, storage depot and
mobilisation camp.
Africa: Our First Offensive: Hundreds of Allied warships along
with fast and slow moving convoy were steaming across the Atlantic toward
a common centre in the north west of Africa. This was the greatest armada
to sail into battle in the history of the world. The enemy would not know
what was about to happen, until it was an accomplished fact. The invasion
was split into three groups. The western task force sailed from the U.S.
bound for Casablanca. The central and eastern forces left from the
British Isles headed for Algiers. The Allied invasion of Africa was a most
peculiar venture of armed forces into the field of international politics.
The Allies were invading neutral country to make a friend.

The Story of the SAS
North Africa 1943. The SAS tally of enemy planes has surpassed 400.
Hitler is Enraged. "These men are dangerous and should be hunted down
at all costs..." A precedent had bee set that would never falter.
The SAS was born. This is the remarkable story of Britain's elite fighting
regiment. Diverse and mulit-faceted, it encompasses the relentless
spectrum of human conflict. From the inhospitable deserts of North Africa
to the deep, unchartered jungles of Borneo: whether it is scaling the precipitous
Jebel Akdhar at night fully laden, or abseiling through the blast
shattered windows of the Iranian Embassy - the SAS continue to redefine
the role of Special Forces worldwide. Using previously unseen footage
and rare interviews, the story of the SAS provides an account of
unparalleled tenacity and heroism. The SAS: Who Dares Wins...

The Crimean War, A Clash of Empires
Was this war, or a grim fiasco in the midst of the towering 19th
century? A war with far flung conflicts that crushed old alliances,
destroyed friendships and boundaries, while killing hundreds of thousands
of human beings and their blooded horses.
Few things are remembered from this half forgotten melee: the Alma,
Balaklava, the Sevastopol siege, Cardigan's Light Brigade disaster,
hapless Raglan and unlucky Lucan, the poseurs Napoleon III and St. Arnaud;
and then, the incomparable Florence Nightingale. Omar Pasha the Bosnian
and the Ottoman Turks come to life as does General Prince Menshikov and
other Russian incompetents.
This superbly researched, vibrant chronicle comprises over 1500
illustrations from the period and an evocative musical score.

Hastings 1066, Tapestry of a Battle
The story of a day that changed a nation.
The great battle fought near the English town of Hastings on October
14, 1066 was perhaps the most significant in English history.
The bloody victory won that day by Duke William of Normandy over Harold
II of England was to change the destiny of a nation forever. For, at the
end of a day which saw the most savage fighting, the sun set not only on
the dead and wounded which littered Senlac Hill but also on the entire
Anglo-Saxon way of life. Featuring spectacular, atmospheric
reconstructions and reenactments plus the powerful imagery of the Bayeux
Tapestry, 'Hastings 1066' explores the dramatic story behind the most
famous date in our history.
