D-Day Normandy Landings by Robert Taylor.
On June 6, 1944, no fewer than 4000 ships landed 133,000 assault troops on the beaches of Normandy. A further 23,000 parachuted in, whilst Allied aircraft flew 14,000 sorties on that historic day. By the end of August 200,000 seamen had transported two million troops across to France. It was the greatest and most successful military invasion in history, which led to the downfall of Hitlers Germany, and the end of the war in Europe. Robert Taylors painting captures the very essence of that herculean battle. The painting is dominated by one of the many large transport ships, lowering her landing craft under bombardment from shore batteries. Barrage balloons flying, this massive fleet sailed into the teeth of the German defences, to land its invasion forces against all odds.

Hornblower and the Indefatigable by Robert Taylor.
Winter in the Bay of Biscay brings ferocious gales and bitter cold discomfort for ships crews aboard the British frigate Indefatigable. Horatio Hornblower, C.S. Forresters dashing eighteenth-century naval officer, experienced the worst of conditions at sea while serving the arduous task of blockading the ports off the west coast of France. The excitement of battle came as welcome relief. Roberts magnificent painting depicts an exchange of cannon fire between Indefatigable - on the left - and a 40-gun French frigate attempting to run the blockade on a chill winters morning. Moments later the two hulls crashed alongside each other, and the Frenchman was boarded and taken.

Legend of Colin Kelly by Robert Taylor.
December 10th 1941, Just three days after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, captain Colin Kellys 19th BG B-17C is heavily outnumbered by Zeros as it returns to Clark Field after completing a successful bombing attack. With his aircraft on fire. Kelly remained at the controls whilst his crew bailed out. Seconds later the B-17 exploded. Colin Kelly gave his life and was posthumously awarded the DFC. A legend was born.

Leonard Cheshire VC is one of the most outstanding of all RAF Bomber Pilots. He devised the master bomber technique - flying low over the target marking with flares, allowing the main force to pinpoint the target in the darkness. Cheshire flew over 100 operational missions and was awarded the Victoria Cross for his supreme courage.

Spitfire Clipper by Robert Taylor.
Tea carried down the Min River from the plantations on Chinese junks, is loaded aboard the American clipper Spitfire in Pagoda Anchorage, Foochow, October 1857. In this busy port scene a steam tug approaches, indicating the Clipper is almost ready to sail for London, a voyage that she will complete in 113 days. Return to Rattlesden by Nicolas Trudgian.
With their crews, the 447th Bomb Group B-17 Fortresses arrived at Rattlesden in late 1943, the East Anglian base from which the group flew all its missions until the end of the war. Entering combat on December 24, the 447th targeted submarine pens, naval installations, ports and missile sites, airfields and marshalling yards in France, Belgium and Germany in preparation for the Normandy invasion. In the thick of the bomber offensive, the 447th took part in the Big-Week raids, supported the D-Day landings, aided the breakthrough at St. Lo, pounded enemy positions during the airborne invasion of Holland, and dropped supplies to the Free French forces fighting behind enemy lines. During the Battle of the Bulge, December 1944 - January 1945, the group attacked marshalling yards, railroad bridges and communications centers in the combat zone, later resuming their offensive against targets deep inside Germany. When the war ended the 447th had flown over 257 individual missions, with one of their aircrew, Robert Femoyer, being awarded the Medal of Honor. Theirs was typical of the action packed campaigns flown by the American Eighth Air Force bomb groups in Europe during WWII.
