Ian Rush by Gary Brandham. Ian Rush's goalscoring feats with Liverpool may never be matched by any player at any club. His astonishing strike rate made him the club's talisman through one of the most successful periods in the club's history and it is one of footbal's greatest ironies that like so many of the worlds greatest players, Ian's talents were never allowed to blossom on the world stage despite his valiant efforts for his beloved Wales. |

Jaap Stam by Gary Brandham. Since his arrival from Holland in 1998 Jaap Stam has arguably been Manchester Uniteds most consistent performer. After being voted Dutch Player of the Year at the end of the 1997-98 season a great deal of expectation arose from the Old Trafford faithful as they waited to see if the Dutchman would justify his 10.75 million pound transfer fee. However, Stam has far exceeded any expectations the supporters may have had. His incredible pace, control and ability to read the game have provided Manchester United with the necessary strength in defence to enable them to play the type of free-flowing attacking football which has become synonymous with the Treble winning side. It is a certainty that with his best still to come Jaap Stam will be a name which is long remembered on the terraces of Old Trafford. |
David Seaman by Robert Highton. Highbury legend David Seamans glittering career has made him one of the most popular players in the modern game. David has won two FA Cups, two English titles and a European Cup Winners Cup as well as being an ever present in the England side winning over 60 caps. Davids remarkable penalty saves in Euro 96, when England so nearly reached the final, made him Englands player of the year and fittingly David was awarded a testimonial for his loyal service to Arsenal at the end of the 2001 campaign. |
Robert Pires by Gary Brandham. Following the success of several French imports to Highbury, Arsene Wenger again turned to his home country in search of another midfield maestro. Robert Pires was duly signed from Marseille in July 2000 in a 6 million pound deal. Robert Pires has adjusted quickly to the English game. Pires and his love affair with English football comes from the intensity of the game teamed with the passion from the Highbury fans. On describing the fans' reaction when he scores, he said, It's an unbelievablesensation to be standing on the pitch when the whole crowd erupts. For a man who played in a European championship final, and who won the World Cup, these words must sound sweet to the Highbury faithful. Robert Pires received the recognition his talent deserved on winning the Football Writer's Player of the Year Award in the 2001/02 season. |

Arsenal - The Double Part II - FA Cup by Gary Brandham. Having been narrowly beaten the previous year in the cup final, Arsenal were determined to set the record straight in the 2002 cup final. Cardiff's Millennium Stadium hosted the cup final against Chelsea, who's team of overseas stars were capable of an upset. The Gunners needed to be at their best with the game evenly poised with chances at both ends. A moment of inspiration was needed. It was supplied by Ray Parlour whose magnificent long-range strike gave Cudicini no chance at all. Inspired by this, Arsenal went on to win in style with a magnificent curling shot into the top corner from the enigmatic Freddie Ljungberg. Arsene Wenger's team had triumphed in style and put themselves firmly at the pinnacle of the English game. |
