DP0157. Feldwebel Heinz Gartner - Where is Hill 128 by David Pentland. <p> Mor, Hungary, 1st January 1945.  Feldwebel Heinz Gartner and Oberleutnant von Rosen, plus a handful of other King Tigers of Heavy Tank battalion 503, searched for the units objective, Hill 128.  Despite heavy snow and poor visibility, the Tigers found and took the hill, routing the strong Soviet defences present.  By the end of the war Feldwebel Gartner had destroyed 103 enemy tanks. <b><p>Limited edition of 30 giclee art prints.  <p> Image size 12 inches x 8 inches (31cm x 21cm)

Born in Konigsberg, Karl-Heinz Decker joined the German army in 1943, trained as a tank crewman and transferred to the 12th Waffen SS Panzer Division in Belgium in 1944. Staying with this elite unit in France during the Allied invasion he fought throughout the Normandy campaign, on D-Day, at Falaise and was eventually taken PoW. He died on 8th December 2015.
