![]() ![]() Air Chief Marshal Sir Brian Burnett GCB DFC AFC (deceased) *Signature Value : £40 | Joining the Royal Air Force in 1934, he was awarded the Air Force Cross in 1938 for his part as Navigator and 2nd Pilot on a Wellesley bomber that flew a record nonstop flight from Egypt to Australia. He was in command of No.51 Sqn flying Whitley bombers during the war before taking up senior roles in the Air Force, retiring in 1972. Having participated as a player in the 1946 Championship, he took the role of Chairman of the All England Lawn Tennis Club at Wimbledon for a decade until retiring from it in 1984. He died on 16th September 2011 at the age of 98. |
