A Captain in the East Lancashire Regiment, he and his men were hugely outnumbered near Dunkirk on 31st May / 1st June 1940. Taking to the roof of a barn, he accounted for 17 of the enemy with his own rifle. With the barn crumbling under heavy enemy fire, he got the wounded away and led the other eight volunteers to safety. For this he was awarded the Victoria Cross. He died in 1995. Please note that this particular signature has been written in pen - not in pencil like most of our signatures. Lt Col Harold Ervine-Andrews VC (deceased) *Signature Value : £65	He was a Captain in the East Lancashire Regiment serving at Dunkirk in April 1940. Hugely outnumbered, on the night of 31st May / 1st June, he and some volunteers quickly took up position on a barn roof, shot 17 of the enemy with their rifles and many more with a Bren gun. With the enemy atttacking the building, it was soon alight and being hit by mortar bombs. He got all of the wounded men out and led the remaining eight volunteers safely back. For this heroic action he was awarded the Victoria Cross. He died on 30th March 1995, with the distinction of being the last living Irishman to be awarded the Victoria Cross in World War Two.
