| Eric Noel *Signature Value : £45 (matted) | He was a crew member of HMS Prince of Wales and took part in the Battle of the Denmark Strait when the German battleship Bismarck sank HMS Hood and the Prince of Wales was left badly damaged. He manned an anti-aircraft turret on the Prince of Wales when it was sunk by Japanese planes on December 10th 1941. He was rescued by scrambling up a net onto a Royal navy destroyer. Eric was later transferred to the mine sweeper HMS Loyalty which participated in the Normandy landings but would be torpedoed and sunk on a mission to keep the invasion shipping lanes clear and the beachhead supplied. |
