He went to France with 301 Squadron in May 1940 and served as Flight Commanderduring the Battle of Britain being awarded the DFC in August 1940, before taking command of 301 Squadron in November 1940. He later served in Lagos, held staff roles at the Air Ministry and was posted to the far east before retiring on 28th December 1964 ad a Wing Commander. He died in February 2001.
