James Allan Ford CB MC (deceased)

Born 10th June 1920, educated at Royal High School, Edinburgh and Edinburgh University. 2nd Lieutenant in Royal Scots 1940 and promoted in the field to Acting Captain. Posted to Hong Kong with the 2nd Battalion Royal Scots five weeks before the fall of the colony. He won the Military Cross during the defence of Hong Kong but he was captured and spent the remainder of the war as a POW in Japan. After the war Jim Ford rejoined the Civil Service and became Registrar General for Scotland 1966-69, the Principal Establishment Officer for Scotland 1969-79. He was also a trustee of the National Library of Scotland. He retired in 1979. He died on 30th March 2009. He was the younger brother of Captain Douglas Ford, also of the 2nd Battalion Royal Scots who smuggled medical supplies into one of the POW camps and although caught and tortured by the Kempeitai he refused to implicate others and was executed by a firing squad on 18th December 1943. He was awarded a posthumous George Cross.
