Flight Lieutenant Dennis Mason DFM
Dennis joined the RAF in June 1940. After training as a Wop/AG at Yatesbury and Lossiemouth Dennis was posted to 149 Squadron at Mildenhall in June 1941. Dennis flew on the raid depicted in Wellington Attack in 149's F for Freddie. The Wellington bomber that had found fame in the film Target for Tonight. On completion of his first tour Dennis had a brief spell instructing before returning to front line duty for his second tour with IX Squadron as they converted to Avro Manchesters and Lancasters. It was at this time Dennis changed trades to become a bomb aimer. Promoted in quick succession to Flight Lieutenant Dennis would also be awarded the DFM from his exploits at 149 Squadron. In retirement Dennis would put pen to paper under the pseudonym Mike Dee entitled The Third Son as a Night Bomber.
