Air Vice-Marshal Henry Hogan DFC (deceased)

Entering RAF College Cranwell in January 1929, he graduated in December 1930 with a permanent commission and went on to serve with the Fleet Air Arm and in various training and staff roles before taking command of 501 Squadron at Croydon on 29th June 1940. He saw considerable action during the Battle of Britain, claiming multiple kills in Me109s, a He111 and Me110's and was himself shut down on 18th September 1940, baling out unhurt. He was awarded the DFC in October 1940. He subsequenty helped establish training units in the UK and later the USA. Where he became Director of Flying Training RAF as a Group Captain. After the war he rose through a series of senior appointments, being made a CB in 1955, before retiring on 29th April 1962 as an Air Vice-Marshal. He died on 28th June 1993.
